West Side shooting victims reported by Chicago Tribune | Saturday, Oct. 3 through Friday, Oct. 16
Oct. 8: Male, 23 || Male, 25 in Austin
“Earlier Thursday, two men were wounded within minutes of each other in the Austin neighborhood. The first shooting happened about 1:20 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Iowa Street, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman. A 23-year-old man said he was walking when he heard shots and felt pain. He suffered a graze wound to the head and was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Sedevic said. About 10 minutes later, a 25-year-old man was wounded in the 5100 block of West Division Street, Sedevic said. He suffered a wound to the arm and was taken to Mount Sinai, where he was listed in good condition.”
Oct. 8: Male, 26, in West Garfield Park
“At 11:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in West Garfield Park, police said. ‘He was outside in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street when he heard gunfire and felt pain,’ said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokesman. He was hit multiple times in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.”
Oct. 9: Male, 23, in West Garfield Park
“Shortly before 10:30 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in West Garfield Park, said police spokeswoman Officer Ana Pacheco, citing preliminary information.
He was shot in the arm in the 4100 block of West West End Avenue and taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Pacheco said.”
“At about 7:35 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the 1100 block of North Leamington Avenue in South Austin, according to Sedevic, a police spokeswoman. He told police he was walking on a sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. He was hit in the buttocks, police said. He also was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in fair condition, Sedevic said.”
“At 3:20 a.m. Saturday, a 33-year-old man was killed in an apartment in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. He was attending a party in the 1100 block of North Lawler Avenue when someone shot him in the head, Sedevic said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead. Partygoers gathered outside the building in the moments after the shooting, talking quietly. Everyone was confused about what happened, said one woman who was at the apartment and heard the gunshots.
‘I tell my friend, who the hell popping firecrackers in the house?’ she said.”
“About 5 a.m. Sunday, a 31-year-old man was shot in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.
“He was at a gas station in the 5100 block of West Chicago Avenue when he got into an argument with someone, Estrada said. The person he was arguing with got in a car and began driving away, then started shooting in the man’s direction. He was hit in the left shoulder. Friends on the scene took him to West Suburban Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.”
Oct. 12: Male, 32, in West Garfield Park
“‘A 32-year-old man was shot on the 200 block of North Kenneth Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
That shooting happened at 4:17 p.m. and left the man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized,’ said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.”
Oct. 15: Male, 33, in North Lawndale
“About 12:20 a.m. Thursday, a 33-year-old man was shot and wounded in Lawndale, Gaines said.
“He was fighting with the mother of his child in the 1500 block of South Avers Avenue when the woman’s current boyfriend or husband came outside and shot him in the leg, [Chicago police spokesman Ron] Gaines said.
“He went to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.”
Oct. 16: Male, 25, in North Lawndale
“About 12:10 a.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in Lawndale, Gaines said.
“Officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 1200 block of South Kedvale Avenue found him lying on the sidewalk with a wound to the back, police said. He was uncooperative with police, [Chicago police spokesman Ron] Gaines said.
“The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.
