The North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council (NLCCC) will host the first annual North Lawndale Arts Festival tomorrow, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Douglas Park Cultural Center’s fieldhouse, 1401 S. Sacramento.

The event will feature numerous local artisans and vendors, in addition to musical performances by Celestial Ministries Drumline, M.A.D.D. Rhythms and Larry Taylor, among other acts.

“The North Lawndale Arts Festival was started in an effort to unify the community around arts and culture, build bridges between the North Lawndale and Little Village communities and help build momentum around other planned festivals for Douglas Park,” according to an NLCCC statement. “Over the long term the   festival will be used to attract more arts and cultural activities and encourage economic development.”

The NLCCC is an organizing comprising numerous North Lawndale stakeholders, including business owners, elected officials and community organizations. The group is currently working on a comprehensive plan for the West Side community.
