Celebrate a library reopening
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, Austin Branch Library, 5615 W. Race St., will mark its reopening with a celebration at 3:30 p.m., which will feature refreshments, a book giveaway for kids, kids activities such as button-making and a meet-and-greet with the newly appointed Teen Associate librarian, who will be supervising the new teen space.
Chicago Sinfonietta, an orchestra that sets out to promote and recruit “diverse” musicians, will perform at 4 p.m. Everybody in attendance will have a chance to win tickets to one of their concerts, and kids will get a chance to get up close and personal with the musical instruments thanks to an “Instrument Petting Zoo.”
Commemorate Black History month with a concert
On Feb. 14, Feb. 15 and Feb. 16, the Chicago Children’s Choir (which has a branch in Austin) will perform during the annual Black History Month Concert Series, presented by Target, at the Chicago Symphony Center. The performances will be at 10:45 a.m. on all days.
Seating is limited and patrons will be accommodated on a first-come basis. More information is available at www.ccchoir.org.
