Appeal your property taxes 

On Wednesday, Sept. 12, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson Blvd., Ald. Chris Taliaferro (29th) will host a property tax and appeal workshop. The Cook County Assessor’s Office is currently accepting property assessment appeals for West Chicago Township that will affect the second installment of your property tax bill. 

Please bring your reassessment notice and 2017 second installment property tax bill. Appeals for West Chicago Township are due by Tuesday, Sept. 25, and can be filed online at cookcountyassessor.com. 

Attend a free event for women and girls in Austin

On Saturday, Sept. 15, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Annie Bell Fragrances, 3 S. Austin Blvd., Black Girls Break Bread will host a free event for women and girls of Austin. Lunch provided. 

The nonprofit, founded by Jessica Davenport-Williams, Khadija Warfield and Jazzy Davenport-Russ, has a mission to empower, uplift, and inspire Black women and girls through the creation of safe spaces for intergenerational discourse and engagement.
