Experience Austin like you never have before
On Monday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St. in Oak Park, the Black Metropolis Research Consortium will host an event in partnership with the Oak Park Public Library that features a former BMRC fellow, Sasha Phyars-Burgess.
Experience Sasha Phyars-Burgess’ UNTITLED, a photographic exploration of race, class, and space in one of Chicago’s largest neighborhoods — Austin. Beginning in the late 1960s, Austin, on the city’s West side, experienced dramatic demographic changes due to white flight, redlining, and economic disinvestment. Phyars-Burgess’ photography captures the ongoing effects of these changes and the everyday lives of Austin residents.
