Loretto Hospital offering free prostate cancer screenings throughout November
The hospital is offering walk-in appointments and same-day prostate cancer screenings for those who qualify
Loretto Hospital in Austin is offering free prostate cancer screenings for uninsured or underinsured men living in Austin and surrounding communities through the month of November, accordant to a statement the hospital released this month.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among all men in the United States, but Black men die from the diseases at a much higher rate than men of other race and ethnic groups.
“Typically, men are less likely to schedule routine physicals and screenings than women,” said Dr. Ilysa Diamond, who practices gastroenterology at the hospital.
“The Loretto Hospital remains committed to ensuring men understand their risk factors and are equipped with the necessary tools, like routine screenings, to protect their health.”
The hospital is offering walk-in appointments and same-day prostate cancer screening for area men who qualify. For more information or to schedule a screening, call (833)-TLH-LOVE.
