The Illinois Department of Insurance (DOI) is reminding consumers that the 2018 Open Enrollment Period ends Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. All Illinoisans needing health insurance coverage for 2018 must enroll by 11 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017.

Consumers who have questions, or who are looking to sign up for a plan over the phone, may request to speak to a licensed insurance agent by calling (866) 311-1119 Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Donate a gift for a deserving child 

From Dec. 11 to Dec. 15, consider donating a new, unwrapped gift suitable for a boy or girl from 3 months to 16 years old, at United for Better Living, 4540 W. Washington Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or at Dream TeamV, 3333 W. Arthington St., 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (on Dec. 14). 

The donations will benefit the JAC 4th Annual Breakfast with Santa. 

Help Austin light its Christmas tree 

The Austin Chamber of Commerce's Annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Festival will be held on Friday, Dec. 15. The parade will kick off at Unity Fellowship Church, Cicero and Madison, at 5 p.m. The tree-lighting will start at 6 p.m., in front of the 15th District police station, 5701 W. Madison.
