Learn about gospel and African spiritual traditions 

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the North Austin Branch Library, 5724 W. North Ave., come listen to Minister Kathryn B. Kemp discuss the history of gospel music with a focus on the importance of African spiritual traditions. Kemp is the author of Make A Joyful Noise! and Anointed to Sing the Gospel.

Learn code and learn black tech history, too 

On Thursday, Feb. 6, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Austin Branch Library, 5615 W. Race Ave., code a robot and then set it on an obstacle course. You can even race your robots to see who wins! In honor of African-American History Month, we will also learn about famous African-Americans in technology, like Lonnie Johnson and Lewis Howard Latimer.
