Celebrate Juneteenth 

On Saturday, June 16, 10 a.m., at 2901 W. Monroe St., St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church will host its 4th Annual African-American Awareness and Appreciation Parade — A Juneteenth Celebration. 

The Juneteenth Parade celebrates by honoring African-American ancestry, achievements and struggles with floats and community participants.

The parade route begins at 5th Ave and Francisco, travels along West Madison St. and ends at North Central Park Ave. and West Washington Boulevard. Line up begins at 9:30 am.

Attend an Exclusive fashion show  

On Friday, June 15, 6 p.m., at Ella Flagg Young School, 1434 N. Parkside St. (auditorium-Waller entrance), teacher Vanessa Renee will host her annual Exclusive Spring Fashion Show. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. 

The show is designed to "promote self-love, motivation, confidence and team-building," Renee said. 


Support 100 Blocks/100 Churches 

Each Wednesday in June and July, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at multiple locations, the 25th Police District will host100 Blocks/100 Churches events designed to promote unity and safety. Join them at any of the following locations:

New Life Church | 5200 W. Diversey (June 20)

Attend a critical community meeting 

On Thursday, June 14, 10 a.m., at City Hall (121 N. La Salle St., Room 805), the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Mayor's License Discipline Commission will host a meeting about Madison-Lotus Corp-Prestige Food & Liquor (5439 W. Madison St.), Winners Sports Bar & Grill Inc. (5912-5914 W. Madison St.) and Laudromat of African American History (5920 W. Madison St.).
