This part-time position will be 18.75 hours/week and provides a critical role for the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Bethel New Life. The main responsibility of the position will be to provide business counseling and training primarily to existing business owners to optimize operations. The position will have a key focus on the needs of local west side manufacturers and their need for capital for growth.
A primary task will be to provide the necessary business counseling and loan packaging assistance to help these businesses access capital to stabilize and expand their businesses to retain and create new jobs. A secondary task will be to work with other emerging businesses and provide training for some of the regular "Starting a Business in Illinois" monthly workshops, as well as assist with training for some components of the Entrepreneurship Training Program.
The individual must have solid experience in working with more complex business situations, with critical skills in understanding business concepts and navigating the start-up process. Experience in working with manufacturing businesses will be a key consideration for the position and is highly desired. This person must have good social interaction skills, sensitivity, and the ability to relate well to the needs of low- to-moderate income individuals, as well as culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse populations seeking to start or expand a business. The person must also be well organized with an attention to detail and be able to document their work concisely for internal and external reporting purposes.
