Now that the inauguration and merriment is over, what would you like to say to President Obama, and what do you think he should focus on first during this second term?

Earl Wiley

"I think he should focus on getting a mandate for getting all rifles off the streets to save our young people."

Clarence Bonner

"All I can say is he should do the best that he can do. Nothing special. Just do the best that he can do. I think that he is wise enough to do that."

Ruthie Chamblas

"I think he should continue focusing on senior health care for the senior citizens and the children, and I'm glad he got a second term."

Bradford Brown

"Keep up the good work up that you are doing. Don't let anybody get under your skin. Keep being a good man and work for the country."

State Rep. Camille Lilly

I am very proud of him and his family in their willingness to represent us as a developed country that is very diverse. He represents our country very well, and as he moves forward to continue to meet the needs of the people of this great country, America, I too applaud him for looking back to that inauguration scene to see what he has to do, which is to represent the people, and as he continues to do that, he is doing God's work."

Michelle Collins

"I want to say congratulations to Barack Obama; let him know that we are behind you. We are praying for him, and to stay focused. I think that he has his eye on the ball in terms of what's important, and that's the real people that need his help, and they really do, so do what you do."

Resident, local (i.e. Chicago) and nation wide (i.e. Brady Bill) guns have NOT worked. It's time to blame people for firing guns, not the actual guns.

Rudy, nation wide gun bans have obviously worked. I agree that dysfunction is a root cause, but allowing guns to flow freely in society allows people to make silly arguments into fatal mistakes.

Resident, banning (more) guns won't work, because regardless of how guns are obtained, freewill can not be stopped. Dysfunction at the root is great, but realistically that is not going to occur anytime soon.

Rudy, the Chicago gun ban didn't work because criminals just went outside of city limits and bought guns from legal buyers. That's why we need a nation wide ban. It work in the UK, after the shooting at a school in Scotland. Shootings and gun deaths are substantially lower now compared to when hand guns were legal there. I agree that we need harsher punishment of gangbangers, but we need to stop the dysfunction at the root, before kids become gangbangers. That's more effective.

We need to ban the people, who are firing guns. Another gun will accomplish nothing. Since 1982, guns have been banned in Chicago, which has accomplish nothing. Stop coddling gangbangers with more money and programs!

To Earl, the majority of shooting deaths in Chicago are from hang guns. Banning rifles will do little to change the gun violence on the west and south sides. We need to ban ALL guns, but more importantly we need to educate young people that if they continue to be involved in gang culture, this cycle of violence will continue. We need to attack gangs head on, and we need to create positive opportunities of kids and teens. Parents need to parent their children as oppose to gangbangers.
