Just a week after the Chicago Sun-Times endorsed one challenger, Bob Galhotra, to incumbent 29th Ward alderman Deborah Graham, the Chicago Tribune has endorsed another challenger, Lawrence Andolino.

Here's the Tribune's endorsement explanation:

The Tribune has reported in recent years on questionable development decisions by Ald. Deborah Graham. It sure doesn't seem like she has been looking out for her West Side constituents. She approved new liquor licenses along a business corridor that had been voted dry, then reversed course when the community rebelled. Most questionable: She helped a liquor store linked to a drug dealer get $105,000 in city development funds, though liquor stores aren't supposed to qualify. She got the City Council to lift a moratorium on liquor licenses in the area, six months after the store donated $1,950 to her ward organization. Austin residents had protested the opening of the store because it was a block from two other liquor outlets. A better choice is longtime resident Lawrence Andolino, an attorney who has recruited developers to the ward through his neighborhood organization. It wasn't the alderman who brought Starbucks here — it was Andolino and a group of volunteers who put consumer data together and lobbied the company. Also impressive are attorney Bob Galhotra and police sergeant and attorney Chris Taliaferro. Andolino is endorsed.

Paying for an endorsement is not a true endorsement. Unless all of the candidates are there, its just pay for play Mr. Andolino. The average voter does not know that you paid at all, therefore the think that the process is legitatimate.

Xavier, from what I hear Mr. Taliffero has a lot of baggage as well and in know way compares to the experience that Walls has to run the 29th ward effectively. Chris has accomplished nothing.

Jeff, It is obvious that you are delusional in your commentary. Whether IKe is running or not, for a current police office to associate with a known ex fellon in any way is a conflict of interest for him and the ward.

Rodger please understand that Ike isn't running. Chris works in IAD where your past and present MUST be unblemished. Walls on the other has more issues than I care to count. Danny and Ike have NEVER been on the same page. Its obviously something good about him. Out of all the candidates honestly only Bob and Chris are worth voting. They know people and they legislation. And say what you will about Ike but before he mad his mistake he got things done in the ward.

Rodger , I like La Coulton Walls but what makes you think he's the best candidate in he race? Also I'm hearing he's got a lot of past baggage. If he makes it to runoff with the puppet, Graham, I'm sure Rahm will spend thousands of dollars bringing that up in a smear campaign. Wouldn't you agree?

What bothers me about your comments Jeff is that Chris Taliferro is being managed by former Alderman Ike Carruthers who went to jail for taking bribes. You tell me that you put your trust in a candidate that is no doubt being willfully used as a pawn? Crazy! We have got to do better People! And Chris Talliferro is not it!

That question was meant for Rodger not Xavier sorry Xavier.

Xavier why do you think people pay for endorsements? You do not pay for an endorsement. If that was the case all the Chicago Forward Candidates would lock that up. The news papers send a questioner and interview the candidates and the editorial board makes an endorsement.

Maybe we should reelect the puppet Deborah Graham, I know she's had her lips glued on Rahm Emanuel's a$$ for the whole term and got nothing at all for the ward except $800,000 for her buddy Rev Abercrombie, even though that church isn't in the ward. Nevertheless Rahm is probably going to win again and I think he owes her big time for voting with him 100% and getting nothing in return for her constituents.

Im sorry, but I donot believe in endorsements in which you have to pay the endorser to sit down and interview you and hopefully endorse you. That sounds more like pay to play and in Adolino's case, it worked out for him well! The true candidates in the race did not choose to spend their money on something as meaningles as a paid endorsement. They were out knocking on doors and meeting people so that they can get to know them. That is how you win an election!

Zerlina is alright but just because she's grassroots means she knows legislation. Her and that young Maurice Robertson are really out here. If he ran I'd vote for him. He the only former candidate to endorse somebody else. I wish he joined Zerlina but he backing Telefero. Run off will be Bob and Chris. Chris will win. Andolino I don't want you to meet me. I want you to meet the community. I see your signs all over the end of the ward. None in the south. I see chris EVERYWHERE

We need more people like Zerlina who say NO to getting a job so they can SERVE victims of poverty and racism.

Forget all the ones getting the attention like the Taliaferro's , the Galhotra's and The Walls of the world. Y'all sleep on My girl Zurlena Smith. Z represents all of us grass roots people. While others have been busy making money as attorneys and as college professors, she has dedicated her life to fighting for the poor and working class. She has even forgone the opportunity to work a job. She's been very active! She doesn't miss a march or a protest. She's out there fighting for us every day.

The only true candidate in the 29th Ward race is Lacoulton J. Walls! He has been a attorney for almost Thirty years and has served in governmental Administration as a state and U.S. attorney and has conducted business transactions in the forms of real estate (Tiffs), entertainment, criminal and civil law. No other candidate has his experience and expertise! Don't fool yourselves! Punch 55!

Jeff: Austin Weekly News 8/5/13 Residents of Austin, Galewood and suburban Oak Park aren't giving up in their fight to keep a new pawn shop off North Avenue even as the battle stretches into its second year. Attorney Larry Andolino,is representing the community pro bono.

Larry from Chicago

Jeff they are all good candidates. As to only caring about Galewood this is untrue. I fought the pawnshop for everyone from Harlem to past Central Ave. I have come South of North ave that is not true I have tried to meet as many people as possible. Before you decide give me a call 773-552-6532 I will go anywhere in this ward and help everyone.

Jeff

I've met and spoke with the candidates. One thing for sure Andolino is someone I don't trust. I like Teliafero. Ike isn't running but Ike, Danny and from what I hear other leaders to get behind this man says volumes about how bad the ward is. Andolino only cares about Galewood. He hasn't come to south Of North Ave.

Renee

Looks like the Pimping Pastors in Ward 29 are getting excited for a win with telaffero and even more excited for Bob as they feel they can take advantage of all resources that the residents could use. None of these pastors and hardly any members reside in ward 29. They are watching the race harder than those who are participating. It makes me want to throw up. Im for Andelink.. I dont think he will be making any backdoor deals. Taleferro is with Ike Caruthers and The Forgettable Danny Davis. No!

Xavier

Gerald, Deborah Graham can always get a job as a file clerk for Rahm, after 4 years mindless blind loyalty to him, and turning her nose up at her constituents that elected her! What a phony witch. Or she can go write grants for Rev Abercrombie, since he wont have her around to give him $800,000 dollars of tax payers money to run bogus programs. I think the runoff will between Taliaferro and Galhotra. And by the way what poll are you referencing?

Gerald

Posted: February 11th, 2015 12:30 PM

Maybe Deborah Graham can get a job in one of her liquor stores or pawn shops after she's kicked out of office in 2 weeks. She won't even make the runoff. It will end up being Taliaferro and Andolino in the runoff, because Taliaferro is polling in first place in Austin, while Andolino is polling first place in Galewood
