Police warn residents of Austin robberies, attacks involving groups of teens

Three violent robberies have taken place since late April and two of them happened on one block in Austin, according to police.

In all three of the attacks, victims were approached by a group of three to eight teenagers and beaten before their property was taken, say Chicago Police, who described the suspects as between 14 and 17 years old.

The robberies happened at the following dates, times and locations, according to police:

  • April 21, at around 9:15 p.m., on the 200 block of South Lavergne
  • April 22, at around 6:10 p.m., on the 100 block of South Lavergne
  • May 3, at around 9:25 p.m., on the 100 block of South Lavergne

Police are encouraging anyone with information on the robberies, or the suspects, to contact Area North detectives (312) 744-8263.

Police warn residents of Austin robberies involving unidentified male

Another series of possibly related robberies in Austin involves an unknown black male suspect, according to Chicago Police.

Three incidents that took place in April and May involved the unidentified offender getting out of the passenger side of an unidentified gray vehicle, possibly a BMW police say, and displaying a gun in order to rob victims of cell phones and money.

Police describe the suspect as a 20- to 35-year-old black male armed with an unknown caliber handgun.

The robberies happened at the following dates, times and locations, according to police:

  • April 30, at around 6:35 a.m., on the 600 block of North Pine Avenue
  • May 1, at around 5:50 a.m., on the 5000 block of West Superior
  • May 1, 6 a.m., at around 6:00 a.m., on the 4900 block of West Superior

Police are encouraging anyone with information on the robberies, or the suspects, to contact Area North detectives (312) 744-8263.
