Austin Coming Together, a community building network of individuals and organizations, is hosting the Austin Block Club Challenge for the Austin community — any block located west of Kenton Avenue, south of Grand Avenue and north of Roosevelt Road.

The contest, which is hosted with the support of the city's Micro Market Recovery Program, calls for block clubs in the contest area to submit one photo of members of each block club to Facebook. The photos must demonstrate the theme of unity and include the hashtag #austinblockclubchallenge2016 along with the block the photo represents.

All photos must be posted to Facebook without any profane language or imagery. Only registered block clubs are eligible for prizes, which include resources and technical assistance for a block beautification project (i.e., a mural, new block sign or flower planting), in addition to a block party to celebrate the winning entry.

The three posts that generate the most likes, shares and comments will win the prize. Entries are due on July 15.

The challenge is part of a more comprehensive effort by the Austin Micro Market Recovery Program to spread awareness about the availability of $15,000 in down payment assistance through a forgivable loan, administered by Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago. Recipients of the loan can use the funding to buy vacant, foreclosed and short-sale homes.

For more information on the program, call NHS at (773) 329-4010.
