IMAGES: Back-to-school celebrations dominate West Side
Community members come out in droves to celebrate summer and prepare for upcoming school year
Community members, young and old, braved the searing heat on Sat. August 15 for a range of back-to-school events scheduled that day. The big one in Austin was Congressman Danny K. Davis's (7th) 36th Annual Back-to-School Parade and Picnic, which featured a range of young talent. Ald. Michael Scott (24th) held his first annual back-to-school event before the popular West Side Music Festival, headlined by legendary R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe.
The busy weekend lineup is still only a prelude to more events to come. Next weekend, Sat. August 22, Ald. Jason Ervin (28th) will host his annual back-to-school parade and summer festival.

I was pleased to see Danny is still doing his thing. I went to the new Alderman's office on North ave. to see if he would be supporting our block club event only to hear him say what he could not do.We also invited him to a meeting and he didnot show up. I guess he is to busy spending his time in the White area of the ward where he comes from with his White Ward Superintendent. We thought Graham was bad but his guy may be worst.
