Black Against Empire

From now until the end of the year, Austin Weekly News will be teaming with suburban newspaper Village Free Press and One Book, One Proviso to promote the collective reading of Black Against Empire: The History and Politics of the Black Panther Party by Joshua Bloom and Waldo Martin.

The book was chosen to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton, who was murdered during an unjust and unlawful raid carried out by local, state and federal elected officials at his West Side home on Dec. 4, 1969.

Each week, we’ll publish some interesting insights from the book, so we encourage you to purchase it yourself (preferably from Afriware Books, 1701 S. 1st Ave. (suite 400) in the Eisenhower Tower in suburban Maywood). Afriware is one of the few remaining Black-owned bookstores in the entire country, so please show your support.
