Our History & Mission:
Janet Miceli, owner of Spike's, began her business as a dog walking service back in 1993. She walked dogs on a daily basis for clients who were at work. But when clients were going out of town and didn't want their dog home alone w/in-home care, there weren't many good options for overnight care. Janet decided to do something about this! She looked for a precise building in Oak Park that she felt would fit her clients needs; she conferred with an architect who was knowledgeable of this type of business and with veterinarians who advised her what would be the best and safest materials, layouts and resources to use. Nothing in Spike's is porous, which keeps odors out. Everything from the flooring, walls, and ceiling are extremely dog safe and easy to clean. Animal professionals stressed the importance of real fresh air for dogs. No matter how good your ventilation system is, (although Spike's does have one) there is nothing like real fresh air circulation, which is why windows were also installed. Fresh air circulation and a proper ventilation system also reduce any risks of disease.
Spike's has a maximum of 30 dogs, which is what gives them a personal & intimate touch with their guests. It also helps with the structure of the day and not becoming chaotic.
Besides overnight care, Spike's offers doggy daycare, grooming and of course daily dog walking and in-home vacation care for not only your dog, but for cats & all other critters!
