Several young Westsiders (whose names are being withheld at this time out of safety concerns) came to the April 18 rally for Howard Morgan at Old St. Paul Church (see story, page 1) in an effort to get their story out regarding an incident that occurred on Monday, April 11 at Kilbourn and Gladys.
According to some of their testimony, while they sat in a parked car, police pulled up behind them. One of the youth allegedly got out of the car and others in the car got out to prevent any confrontations. Instead police began pepper-spraying, choking and kicking two young men and a confusing melee reportedly ensued. Because one member of the group had a video cell telephone, the entire incident was recorded and subsequently given to TV stations.
An investigation is currently underway to determine if police brutality was the real culprit.
