Arlene, thank you for your “on the money” column in last week’s Austin Weekly regarding society’s attempt to re-create the civil rights movement to further their own purposes. In my opinion, it spits in the eye of everyone who participated in the civil rights movement. As far as I can tell, I’ve not seen any billy-club wielding rednecks or attack dogs. I’ve not seen any bottles or bricks thrown, and none of those other groups has reported any lynchings. No leaders have been gunned down by cowards hiding in bathrooms or bushes. Maybe I just haven’t been paying attention.
