Our friend, colleague and sometimes loving “second mother” Delores McCain has been missing from the pages of the Austin Weekly News the last couple of weeks. Delores was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Rush University Hospital in the Medical District near Congress and Damen.
She wants everyone in the community to know that she’s doing well with treatment and is looking forward to recovery. It was a shock to all of us here at the Weekly when we learned of her illness, but she’s responding well to treatment and is expected to be released from the hospital very soon. She’s looking forward to that. Many of us here, and at our sister publications, have visited Delores. She’s as feisty as ever if only lacking a little energy. She said she’ll be doing most of her reporting from home before she’s well enough to resume her hustling around Austin.
