Fashion models of New York, Paris or Italy have nothing on models from the Austin community.
Designer Donyell Wynn, owner of Austin’s Fashionably Unpredictable, hosted the store’s first spring/summer fashion show last Sunday at Sankofa Cultural Arts and Business Center, 5820 W. Chicago Ave. The boutique is located at 5814 W. Chicago Ave.
“Actually, at Fashionably Unpredictable, the reason I chose to do the show is to basically give back to my community, and show different fashions that are up and coming that are in the area,” said Wynn. “Also, to motivate young women and older women in the area; to bring something different and unique to the community. What we do is makeovers. Also, we do custom gowns for proms, and we do dog makeovers, so your best friend looks good too.
“We have a passion to help people in the community,” Wynn added. “I chose to do the fashion show here at Sankofa because we are neighbors and, actually, to help each other in the community.”
Twenty models participated in the show. Special guest speaker was U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (D-7th), who said how glad he was to see families out together attending the affair. He stressed the importance of children being able to attend events like this with their parents.
Entertainment was by singer Trio, and music provided by DJ Louis. Vivian Gaulding was the commentator for the fashions. Designers and fashions included: ACA by Darlene Damarcko; Bypsy’s Flip Jeans by Mary Moore; and FU Collection and Bah Rah by Wynn. Vendors included: D’Essense by Regina; Arbonne Internationally by Sharonda and Toi; Jules Candles and Soy Products by Rachaunda; and Elegant & Unique Jewels of Alexandria.
