“Deck The Hall” was the theme of the 8th Annual Community Holiday Shopping-fest, sponsored by 37th Ward Alderman Emma Mitts and the Austin Chamber of Commerce on Dec. 5 at Chez Roue Banquet Hall.
The entire hall was filled with wares from a variety of vendors. Savings of up to 50 percent were available on many items and a turkey raffle was awarded every hour.
Praise Dancers from Mars Hill Church, 5916 W. Lake, participated in a praise dance competition and won a $250 scholarship award from the Austin Chamber of Commerce, in keeping with its mission to improve the lives of young people. Members such as President Emeritus Camille Lilly, Treasurer Michelle Collins, banker Eric Thompson, current President Finis Collier, and Community Outreach coordinator Tony Bell are just some of the members who donate their time year-round.
On Dec. 12, Loretto Hospital will bring Santa to the Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson Blvd. from 10 a.m. to noon.
Some of the vendors who participated were A.J. Fashions (fur hats, purses or accessories), Juliette’s Handmade Creations (African dolls with detailing and clothing), Beverly Rogers Accessories (purses to jewelry) were among the unique offerings. Others included Elegant Fashions II Shoes & Accessories; Rhonda Rogers Basket Designs; The Office, LLC Income Tax Services, Mortgages & Real Estate; Ivory Tower Financial Services; Let’s Shop; Will Travel; TA-DAH hats, scarves, and jewelry, accessories; Walton’s Korner Boutique; Divine Things Ministry; and Truss Digital Photography.
Ald. Mitts not only served as host, but, along with Michelle Collins, modeled outfits from A.J. Fashions.
