The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that 29th Ward Alderman Isaac “Ike” Carothers has agreed to a plea deal on federal corruption charges.

Carothers, who has offices on the 5900 block of W. Madison in Austin, will enter the plea agreement at 11:30 a.m. Monday, before Judge Robert M. Dow Jr. at the federal court house downtown.

Last May, Carothers, who has been alderman of the 29th ward since 1999, was charged in a six-count indictment with bribery and filing a false income tax return, among other crimes.  Carothers allegedly received $40,000 in free home renovations from developer Calvin Boender in return for assistance with zoning issues related to a development in the Galewood neighborhood, which is in Carothers’ ward.

In addition to a federal prison sentence, Carothers faces forfeiture of the $40,000 in home improvements he allegedly received from Boender.
