Austin’s Walmart will host a job and hiring resource fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at Prosser Career Academy, 2148 N. Long.

The city’s only Walmart, located just east of Cicero on North Avenue, is being remodeled in preparation for its new 24-hour operation, expected to begin in September. A second store, meanwhile, was approved for the South Side earlier this summer by the Chicago City Council.

The West Side store is looking for applicants with experience in bakery, deli, meat, produce and dry grocery. Applicants should bring their resumes Friday to the resource fair, which is co-sponsored by Walmart and Ald. Emma Mitts (37th). All applications must be completed online at www.walmart.com/apply.

Prosser is also hosting a resource and job fair today and next Thursday July 29. These two-day fairs are geared toward unemployed workers, including youth, ex-offenders, veterans and persons with disabilities. Today’s event entails registering job applicants and providing work assessments, referrals for social services and an invitation to meet with employers July 29. Employers will be present next week to start the interview and application process for qualified job applicants. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days
