It’s that time of year again for Malcolm X College’s annual Kwanzaa celebration.
The event kicked off on Monday Dec. 26, co-sponsored by the Bolozi Wazee/Shule Ya Watoto “School for Children” in Swahili. The 17 annual event runs through Jan. 1, the largest seven-day celebration of Kwanzaa hosted by a higher education institution in the country.
The week-long event is free to the public, featuring live entertainment, cultural activities and an African Market of merchandise on the college’s first and second floors. Daily programs begin at noon but the college’s doors open at 10 a.m. at MXC, 1900 W. Van Buren (312-850-7000).
This year’s theme is “Honoring our Community Leaders for Preserving our Cultural Heritage.”
