Chicago police officers responded early Monday morning to a man perched atop the Kostner Avenue bridge overlooking the I-290 expressway. Police were able to rescue the man before he fell. Officers talked to the man, who climbed over a fence and stood on the outside ledge of the Kostner bridge overlooking traffic. The incident occurred around 11 a.m.
Lt. Joseph Kish of the Chicago Fire Department climbed up an engine ladder behind the man as police grabbed the man’s arm through the metal fence. Traffic traveling eastbound on the highway was halted so the fire truck could get into position.
The man, whose identify is unknown, was pulled to safety and escorted to a waiting ambulance. As to why the man climbed onto the bridge, police could not determine that at the time of the incident.
