Judge Mifflin Gibbs was born on April 17, 1823. Born in Philadelphia, Gibbs was an abolitionist and businessman during his lifetime.

He also has the distinction of being the nation’s first-ever elected municipal judge. Gibbs, 92, died in 1915.
