Heritage Chorale Mentoring/Scholarship Program is offering one award of $1,000 for a student selected to sing with the scholarship group during the spring semester. Eligibility extends to high school seniors residing, attending high school or singing as members of a youth choir in Oak Park, River Forest, or Forest Park. The senior selected will sing with Heritage Chorale for its spring semester beginning in January 2014. Upon successful completion of the concert season in April 2014, the student will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 made payable to the college or other entity or individual with whom the student will be studying the vocal arts after graduating from high school.
The spring 2014 concert program features American secular music, including songs of the prairie by Stephen Chatman, settings of poems by Sara Teasdale, songs from the American Songbook and the Beatles, pieces by Stephen Paulus and a new composition to be commissioned by Heritage Chorale. Concerts are scheduled for April 5 and 6, 2014.
On November 16 and 17, 2013, the Chorale will be performing the Faure Requiem, Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, and choruses from Honegger’s King David. There is no charge for high school students at these or any other Heritage Chorale concerts. Additional information can be found at www.heritagechorale.com.
