The Chicago Westside Branch NAACP will host the “Know Your Rights and Resources Community Conference” on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Whitney M. Young High School located at 211 South Laflin, Chicago, IL.
The R&R Conference is free and will provide information related to issues of Criminal Justice, Housing, Education, Youth, Veterans; and Development for Jobs/Careers, Small Businesses, and Nonprofits (including Churches).
The Criminal Justice panel is designed to educate the attendees about their rights during interactions with police. There will be lawyers and legal professionals who will present information on the Court and Corrections System, as well as new Conceal and Carry laws and Medical Marijuana regulations in the State of Illinois.
One of the missions of the NAACP is to ensure equal housing to all citizens of the community, regardless of class or race. The Housing workshop will focus on topics including; information on renter/landlord rights, fair housing, and mortgage foreclosure.
There will also be workshops and resources to help navigate the educational system. Educators, administrators, and educational organizations will be on site to discuss and answer questions regarding school discipline, the elected school board for Chicago, and more.
Additionally, there will be a Job Readiness workshop where potential employees will have the chance to have their resumes critiqued and reviewed by human resources professionals; a Youth room where teens and young adults will address issues related to them; a session for Veterans; and a seminar for Small Businesses and Nonprofits about start up and compliance. Agencies have also been invited to discuss Family Matters such as divorce, child support and custody, and domestic violence.
The Chicago Westside NAACP is a branch of the oldest and boldest civil rights organization in the country. Our Branch directly provides civil and social resources primarily to the residents of the greater Westside of Chicago, all of Chicagoland is invited to attend.
