Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) Austin Town Hall Children’s Center, a Head Start preschool and pre-kindergarten program, is enrolling children ages 3-5 for its half-day, full-day, and full-year program.

Located at 5610 W. Lake Street in Chicago, LSSI’s Austin Town Hall Children’s Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The program includes: qualified, degreed, bilingual staff who love to teach children; computers in every classroom; free field trips; educational curriculum that promotes kindergarten readiness; nutritious meals every day; a beautiful, well-structured playground; parent engagement opportunities and activities; and safe drop-off and parking. Children with special needs are welcome. LSSI’s Head Start childcare services are publicly funded (a co-payment is assessed based on family income). Child care subsidies are accepted.

Programming is designed to develop students’ social skills and school readiness. Studies show that children who attend Head Start programs experience increased achievement test scores, and students at age three have larger vocabularies and demonstrate a higher level of social-emotional development.

The curriculum at Austin Town Hall Children’s Center covers the essential goals to prepare children for successful kindergarten transition. Awareness of letters, sounds, numbers, comparative thinking, literacy, critical thinking and, problem solving skills—coupled with exposure to computers, early math, reading, science, nutrition, healthy hygiene habits, socialization skills, and much more—provide key fundamentals for later school success.
