CHICAGO – Chicago Public Schools (CPS) today released a revised calendar for School Year 2014-2015 (SY 14-15), which includes rescheduled student attendance days to make up for the weather-related class cancellations earlier this month. In order to ensure that students do not miss any instruction days, class will be in session on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, and Wednesday, June 17, 2015, which were not previously scheduled for student attendance.
“It is crucial that our students do not miss out on any instruction, regardless of unexpected disruptions to the school calendar,” said CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett. “We have adjusted our calendar to ensure students receive the thorough and complete instruction they deserve while maintaining valuable professional development days for teachers.”
CPS is revising its SY 14-15 calendar to account for class cancellations on Jan. 7 and 8, 2015, due to extreme weather, which presented a potential hazard for students traveling to and from school. Jan. 30, 2015, and June 17, 2015, which were previously scheduled as professional development days for teachers, will become student attendance days to account for the cancellations earlier this month. As a result of this change, Wednesday, June 17, 2015, will now be the last day of student attendance in SY 14-15.
CPS has rescheduled professional development dates to ensure teachers do not miss out on these valuable opportunities. June 18 will now be a teacher-directed professional development day; June 19 will be a principal-directed professional development day; and June 22 will be a split teacher- and principal-directed professional development day.
Chicago Public Schools serves 396,000 students in 664 schools. It is the nation’s third-largest school district.
