A 58-year-old Chicago Public Schools teacher died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 24, after suffering from a heart attack at an Austin elementary school, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.
James Dasher, 8th grade teacher at Spencer Elementary Technology Academy, collapsed in the classroom and was taken to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park.
He was pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m. and an autopsy determined his cause of death was cardiovascular disease.
In response to Dasher’s untimely death, CPS released this statement:
“This week, a medical emergency took place at Spencer Technology Academy. Our thoughts and condolences are with the friends and family of the teacher at this time, and we have provided a crisis team to the school to support students and staff.”
