Austin man charged with raping prostitute he met on website
Roy Akins, 29, of Austin, was arrested Sept. 3 after allegedly raping a 24-year-old prostitute he met on the website Backpage.com.
Akins had agreed to pay the prostitute $180 for intercourse, but he reportedly didn’t have any money.
“So when the woman came to his home in the Austin neighborhood on Aug. 9, Akins walked her upstairs, led her to a bedroom and then returned holding a gun and raped her, Assistant State’s Attorney Kim Przekota said at Akins’ bond hearing Thursday,” according to a Chicago Sun-Times report.
After leaving Akins’s home on the 1100 block of North Lawler, the woman called 911 and went to the hospital, her attorney said. After identifying Akins in a lineup, the suspect was held on $750,000 bail and charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault.
