The Monroe Foundation recently won the “Investing in Illinois Award” for its non-profit work helping the people of Illinois from AT&T. The Foundation’s work that garnered the award was in the area of financial literacy. The $2,000 award will be used to support the Monroe Foundation’s Financial Literacy Equal Deposit Program.

“There are great non-profit organizations improving lives in Illinois”, says Sam Balark, AT&T External Affairs Director. “By supporting these organizations we’re strengthening the communities we serve.”

State Representative Emanuel “Chris” Welch nominated the Monroe Foundation for this award from AT&T Illinois. The “Investing in Illinois Awards” provide resources and recognition to organizations and programs that improve lives in their communities and the state. They’re advancing education, economic growth, new technologies and other essential community services.”

The Monroe Foundation has also sponsored the Small Business Boot Camp for Westside entrepreneurs. The 8-week project which has been held at the Malcolm X College Westside Learning Center is building the economic base of Westside communities by enhancing the business skills of the participants.
