The National Council of Negro Women – Chicago Midwest honored a dynamic group of women who have mirrored the life of Mary McLeod Bethune, founder of the National Council of Negro Women. Associate Publisher of Austin Weekly News, Dawn Ferencak, was honored for her accomplishments in media. Other honorees included Dr. Phalese Binion for religion, Michelle Byrd for education, Jacqueline Carson for health, Joan Collaso for music, Rosa Ibarra for finance, Valerie Leonard for community activism, Camille Lilly for government, and Kenya Simone for media.
