Enjoy drumming, peace circle 

The School of the Art Institute at Homan Square, along with UCAN Peace Hub, will host a 3-day drumming and peace circle workshop on Aug. 15, Aug. 17 and Aug. 18 in North Lawndale. All events, which will be centered on healing community through rhythm and art, will take place in Homan Square. 

Workshop 1: Drum and dialogue session | Wednesday, Aug. 15, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at bLumen Pavilion at Homan Square Community Center, 3517 W. Arthington. 

Workshop 2: Trauma healing workshop | Friday, Aug. 17, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Nichols Tower, 906 South Homan Ave. (12th Floor). 

Workshop 3: Junk Yard Jam (featuring bucket drumming, community dance and spoken word) | 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., at bLumen Pavilion at Homan Square Community Center, 3517 W. Arthington.

Davis’ annual Back 2 School extravaganza
 

On Saturday, Aug. 18, Congressman Danny K. Davis will host his annual Back 2 School Picnic, Parade, World Health Day, Technology in the Park and Taste of Austin. Free food, music and supplies. The parade will kick off at 10 a.m., at Bloomingdale and Central Avenues. The picnic begins at 1 p.m. at Columbus Park, 500 S. Central Ave.
