In order to help his campaign efforts in running for Mayor of Chicago Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has a new presence on the West Side.

On Oct. 3, Giannoulias opened a new field office on the South Side and at 1425 S. Kedzie Ave., near Douglass Park in North Lawndale. The new campaign and service site will be a home base for volunteers as they discuss Giannoulias’ campaign and local challenges with nearby voters. It will also be a meeting place for community members and mutual aid efforts, as volunteers gather and provide basic necessities for Chicagoans.

“Campaigns should be about more than asking people for their vote. They should be about showing up, listening, and being part of the communities we want to serve,” Giannoulias said in a statement. “These offices are places where neighbors can talk to us about what they need from their city, get involved in building something better, and, when they need a little help themselves, find a community ready to step up. That’s the kind of campaign we want to run, and it’s the kind of city we want to build.”

As Illinois Secretary of State, Giannoulias is in charge of Department of Motor Vehicles facilities, the organ donor registry, plus incorporating and processing data on businesses.

Giannoulias is currently part of a lawsuit filed by another mayoral candidate, Bill Quinlan. Quinlan argues Giannoulias — along with U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley and Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas — is unlawfully pursuing two offices at the same time. The next hearing for the case will be Oct. 14.
