A 16 year old resident of Austin’s “Island” neighborhood is in serious condition in Loyola Medical Center after being stabbed early Sunday morning at the Austin stop of the CTA Blue Line. Allen Survillion, a sophomore at Michelle Clark Prep School in Austin, was stabbed in the left side of his abdomen around 1:30 a.m. by a 29 year old man who told police that Survillion was among a group of teens he believed were laughing at him.
Survillion was in serious but stable condition after surgery Sunday and again on Monday.
The alleged assailant, Jerome James, 29, of Dolton, was apparently angered by four teens he thought were laughing at him. After pushing a girl down, James allegedly stabbed Survillion.
“It appears to have been the result of the victim and a couple of his friends laughing at something the offender did,” said Oak Park Deputy Police Chief Bob Scianna.
Oak Park police questioned James for two days before transporting him to the Maybrook courthouse Tuesday morning to be arraigned on two battery charges. Once there, the charges were raised to three counts of aggravated battery.
Survillion is the second member of the famed Jesse White tumbler troupe to be the victim of a violent crime in the past two days. Willie Williams III, 17, was shot to death outside the Ford City theaters on the city’s Southwest Side early Saturday.
Media reports characterized Secretary of State Jesse White’s reaction to the news of the attacks on the two young men as devastated and angry.
