Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was in Austin last Thursday for the grand reopening of the West Side branch of her office.

The Chicago West Regional Office has been open at 306 N. Pulaski since January. The office relocated from 3333 W. Arthington in North Lawndale, originally occupying the third floor of the old Sears Roebuck Co. administration building, now an office space rental facility. The building houses a number of elected officials, government agencies and community organizations.

The new Chicago West Regional office is located in a storefront space at Pulaski and Lake Street. The office is staffed with personnel from the Attorney General’s office, providing information and resources to the community, said Madigan, adding that the new location, and its access to the Green Line on Lake Street, will make it more accessible to the community.

“Our [previous] space was not on the first floor, and there was no visibility, and unfortunately that meant for most people living on the West Side, they weren’t aware of the services that the office of the Attorney General provides,” she said. “We want to make sure people are aware of the services and have access to those services.”

Madigan said the Attorney General’s office handles such incidents as predatory lending, identity theft, and violent crimes. For more information about the Chicago West Regional Office of the Attorney General, call 773/265-8808.
