Demetrious Green of the 300 block of North Mayfield in Austin was arrested in Oak Park last Tuesday for a robbery police say took place in December.
Green, 17, was arrested by an Oak Park street crimes officer on the 5900 block of West Corcoran Place, just east of Austin Boulevard. He was later identified in a lineup by a man alleging that Green victimized him in a Dec. 26, armed robbery.
According to Oak Park police, the victim, who resides on the 200 block of North Austin Boulevard, was confronted by Green on the night of Dec. 26, outside his home. The victim alleges Green displayed a 9 mm handgun and demanded money. When the man turned over $7 and his cell phone, Green reportedly struck him in the head with the gun. The man then fought back and managed to take Green’s gun.
Police said Green then tried to bargain with the man, telling him he’d return the cash and cell phone if the man would return his weapon.
The victim instead was able to keep the gun and turn it over to police. He also was able to provide police with a detailed description of his assailant. Oak Park Police Commander Clemet Harbour said the detail the man provided for the sketch helped police apprehend Green.
Last Wednesday night, the Cook County state’s attorney approved charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon against Green. He was formally arraigned Friday and is being held in lieu of $2,000 bail. His next court date is Feb. 20.
