No one has to tell little Corey Coffey how to give back to his community. The 6-year-old student from Austin’s St. Angela School, 1332 N. Massasoit, led a Thanksgiving food drive at his school.
He collected the items for Greater St. John Bible Church. Rev. Ira Acree was nearly moved to tears by the young boy’s effort.
According to Acree, Corey’s mom drove her SUV filled with canned goods and other items to the church last Tuesday before Thanksgiving, also the day of the church’s annual Thanksgiving community feeding.
“This young fella’s efforts by far surpassed any thing that we attempted to do,” Acree said. “What a great story. This kid is truly special.”
