Speculating on what a person has in their heart is always dangerous [King would be disappointed in current state of black America, Sept. 4]. But, I don’t think Dr. King — a man who took being a servant of the Lord seriously — would be disappointed with the complexities of issues blacks have to deal with. I think he would focus on the strides we have made, and would publicly push leaders and the public to see beyond the generalizing and bigotry. We have to stop this toxic practice of focusing on what’s wrong in our communities. Balance, please.
