Funeral services for longtime Austin resident and Chicago Public Schools official James Deanes, who died June 4, will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Baptist Church, 11800 S. Indiana Ave., on the South Side. A wake takes place at 10 a.m.

An architect of the Local School Councils, Deanes died in the early morning of June 4 of natural causes. He retired from CPS last year but remained active in community and school issues. He was among the first LSC facilitators after joining CPS, and held other positions during his 20-plus year career, including community liaison and policy advisor.

Visitation for Deanes is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Leak & Sons Funeral Home, 7838 S. Cottage Grove Ave. His interment is at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 11500 S. Fairfield Ave., following the funeral.
