Columbus Park Refectory will host a public memorial service July 30 for the late James Deanes, community activist and Chicago Public Schools official who died last month. The memorial is from 6 to 8 p.m. next Wednesday at the refectory, 5701 W. Jackson. The public is invited to attend.
Deanes, 66, died June 4. An architect of the Local School Council model, Deanes retired last year after more than 20 years with CPS in various posts, including community liaison, senior policy advisor and LSC facilitator. His funeral was June 10 at Salem Baptist Church on the South Side.
