A West Side organization that focuses on female empowerment is hosting a literary festival in Austin on Saturday.

The Queen Within will host the West Side Literary Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 15, at LaFollete Park Auditorium, 1333 N. Laramie. The event will feature authors Naleighna Kai, Robert Polk and Vee L. Harrison.

Author Bridgett McGill, the organization’s founder, said she wanted to host the fest to make the community more aware of local authors.

“It’s a complete honor to be able to host such wonderful and creative voices from our Chicago communities,” said McGill. “I realize that Chicago has so many great writers, and our West Side communities should know who they are.”

McGill’s organization hosts conferences, workshops and personalized coaching designed for each woman “to discover, pursue, activate and walk in her birthright purpose,” according to the organization’s website.

“It is our intention to teach every woman her true worthiness is her internal being, rather than her external doing,” McGill said. “Giving people opportunities in our community to celebrate women and their work is an important goal and only emphasizes the importance of supporting one another.”
