An anonymous funder has donated $10,000 to the friends and family of missing Chicago trans advocate Taylor Casey of Chicago to use as a reward for information about her disappearance in the Bahamas in June.
“Thanks to everyone who donated to our online fundraiser, it is helping with legal fees and travel costs”, Colette Seymore, Casey’s mother, said in a statement provided to Austin Weekly News. “We never expected to be in this position, and don’t have the resources to do this alone. Again we thank you!”
Casey, 42, was last seen on June 19 at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
No new information about her disappearance has been reported, but Bahamanian authorities reported about three weeks ago that they found her iPhone. Meanwhile, Casey’s supporters have been urging the FBI to investigate and are pushing top Illinois lawmakers to get involved.
Her friends and family also have begun a #BringTaylorHome campaign to raise attention around the search and to raise funds for expenses that include legal costs and travel fees.
“We are asking for people in a position of influence to talk about Casey, and help us find her,” Seymore said in a statement.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, nearly $34,000 of the requested $100,00 had been raised.
