Jess graduated from Northwestern University in 2020 with a journalism degree. After moving to Boulder, Colorado, she developed a freelance career covering local restaurants, arts and culture, plus writing for a handful of trade magazines. Jess came back home to the Chicagoland area in 2023, when she started freelancing for Growing Community Media. She now writes full-time for Austin Weekly News and the Forest Park Review.

He’s still here as its four flags – Wednesday Journal, Austin Weekly News, Forest Park Review and Riverside-Brookfield Landmark – make the switch to the nonprofit model of Growing Community Media. He sees independent community journalism as the glue that makes a neighborhood vital.
